Investigation of the factors affecting the risk perception, attitude and safety performance of Tehran construction workers in 2016

Background and Aim: The presence of healthy workforce in societies is associated with the growth and development and health of communities. This requires having the right knowledge and understanding about the safety and health of the work. The present study was conducted to investigate the factors affecting the perception of the risk, attitude and safety performance of construction workers. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional and randomized study carried out by 342 employees of the construction industry of Iranmal project in 2016. The participants’ age group was between the ages of 18 and 60. The tool was a researcher made questionnaire of Dr. Jahangiri. The questionnaire consisted of four sections, the first part of which was demographic information, the second part includes five items for risk perception, the third part with eleven items, and the fourth section with six items examines the safety performance. The classification of variables of risk perception, attitude and safety performance was considered by numerical criteria in low, medium and high form. The data extracted from the questionnaires were analyzed by using the spss software version 21. Results: Data analysis showed that the demographic characteristics of the participants in the study and its relationship with risk perception, attitude and safety performance, taking into account the risk perception relationship with age, education, marriage, work experience, insurance, professional activity, accident experience and incident were significant (p<0.05). 65.43% of workers had a high risk perception. Also, the attitude and safety performance of workers was 42.59-45.06%, respectively.Conclusion: The results showed that increasing the risk perception of construction workers, increased their attitude and their safety performance. Therefore, applying practical training to increase the risk perception of workers can be effective in this regard.
