چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: The classification and assessment of obesity is an important component of the person’s medical care. The clinicians have become interested in evaluating body composition to assess health risks related to excess body fat. Numerous methods are known for an exact determination of body composition. The used indexes for the estimation of adiposity include the body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), body adiposity index (BAI) and abdominal volume index (AVI). The objective of this study was to evaluate these six obesity index among metabolically healthy obese women referred to the nutrition clinic. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 128 obese women. Participants were selected from those, who referred to a nutrition clinic, randomly. Anthropometric indices were evaluated before any intervention. The waist to hip ratio (ratio of WC to HC), waist to height ratio (ratio of WC to height), body adiposity index (HC divided by height (m)1.5, and subtracting 18 from the result), and abdominal volume index (2×(WC(m)2+(0.7×(WC(m)-HC(m)2) were calculated. Results: The mean age, weight, BMI, WC, WHR, WHtR, BAI and AVI was 28.54± 7.03 years (range 18-45 years), 85.76± 12.85 kg, 33.49±3.97 kg/m2, 103.23± 11.39 cm, 0.90±0.06, 0.64± 0.06, 38.39±3.96 (0.01m-0.5) and 21.68±4.94 cm2, respectively. Conclusion: These findings suggest the need to assess the more obesity index to better decisions among metabolically healthy obese women referred to the nutrition clinic.
