چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a collection of metabolic abnormalities that increase the risk of mortality and morbidity of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes. The dietary pattern is a modifiable risk factor for MetS. Therefore the present study aimed to evaluate the association between the HEI-2015 and MetS. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on Iranian adults between 20 – 70 years, in the framework of TAMIZ and Yazd Health Studies (YaHS). Dietary intakes were assessed using a validated food frequency questionnaire. the total HEI-2015 score was calculated. To evaluate the relation between HEI-2015 and MetS, multivariate logistic regression was used. Results: There was no significant relationship between adherence to HEI-2015 and the prevalence of MetS (OR: 1.08, CI: 0.66 to 1.78, P-value for trend: 0.37) and its components including abdominal obesity (OR: 1.08, CI: 0.60 to 1.92, P-value for trend: 0.97), elevated blood pressure (OR: 1.37, CI: 0.82 to 2.30, P-value for trend: 0.28), high serum triacylglycerol (OR: 0.89, CI: 0.58 to 1.37, P-value for trend: 0.82), low serum HDL-C (OR: 1.11, CI: 0.72 to 1.72, P-value for trend: 0.51) and abnormal glucose homeostasis (OR: 0.89, CI: 0.56 to 1.40, P-value for trend: 0.99) after adjusted for confounding variables. Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between HEI-2015 and the prevalence of MetS, and also it did not improve components of MetS consists of abdominal obesity, blood pressure, serum triacylglycerol, serum HDL-C, and glucose concentration in Iranian adults. More prospective studies are needed to confirm our findings in other populations.
