چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Maternal weight gain during pregnancy is closely related to the baby’s weight and pregnancy outcome. Since the study of weight gain of pregnant women can prevent the imposition of significant health costs in the future by developing appropriate dietary policies, the aim of this study was to investigate the pattern of weight gain in pregnant women referring to the Khorramabad health care centers. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was performed on 200 pregnant women referring to Khorramabad health care centers in 2018. Their information was collected through referral to health records in 1392 until the study was completed and compared with the American Institute of Medicine s proposed table. Results: Most women with pre pregnancy’s BMI less than normal also with normal BMI had similar weight gain to the standard (51.6% & 66.2% respectively). However, in women with overweight and obesity were more than standard (56.7% & 59.1% respectively). The mean weight gain in the primigravida mothers was the highest and in the multigravida mothers was the lowest (P <0.001). Also, there was a significant difference between the average weight gain of pregnant women and the level of maternal education and also with grade of gravity (P <0.001).Conclusion: The results of the present study showed that the weight gain of women with overweight and obese pregnant women referring to Khorramabad health care centers was higher than recommended IOM. Also, weight gain during pregnancy is affected by the level of education and the birth rate of the child.
