چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Health inequalities may be partially attributable to differences in food intakes across the socio-economic characteristics. The present study determines whether socio-economic differences effect on diet and food group consumption and tests a conceptual model of associations between socio-demographic and behavioral factors and food intake among adult women in Tehran, Iran. Methods: Through systematic cluster sampling, 247 women at reproductive age were selected from 5 regions in Tehran. In order to collect the data, in addition to anthropometric measures, three different instruments were used including socio-economic status (SES), information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) questionnaire, and food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Statistical analysis was done by SPSS and IBM SPSS AMOS using analysis of variance (ANOVA), bivariate correlation and structural equation modeling. Results: The majority of women were married (80.6%) and housewife (59.9%). Consumption of meats and egg, milk and dairy products, and fats and oils in the north, east, and south of city was higher than the other regions, respectively. However, consumption of vegetables in the west of city was lower than others. In households with low total expenditure, fats and oils consumption were higher. The higher perceived social support led to more milk and dairy, fats and oils consumption. The most important factor affecting the consumption of unhealthy foods (meats and egg, fats and oils, sugar, salty foods) was IMB components. Conclusion: The present research provides that. The present findings on effects of socio-economic and behavioral factors on food group consumption, might help to plan effective interventions/strategies for promote healthy nutritional behavior in women.
