EFFECT OF DAILY GREEN TEA CONSUMPTION AND BALANCED FAT DIET ON LIPID PROFILE

Background and Aim: Serum lipid disorders are major risk factor of many diseases including cardiovascular diseases, which is related to nutrition and daily diet. This study aimed to determine the effect of daily consumption of 2 cups of green tea with a balanced and proportional diet without use of lipid lowering tablets on blood lipids profile.Methods: In a quasi-experimental cross-sectional study, 100 Middle-aged patient with lipid disorders without use of lipid lowering tablets in Ghods health center of Borujerd was selected randomly. Lipid profiles (Triglyceride, total cholesterol and LDL) with a balanced and proportional diet were assessed in the beginning of the study and three months after intervention. 2 cups of green tea were drank daily by volunteers during the intervention.Results: The results indicated a significant decrease in serum triglyceride level to 23.49 mg/dl (P<0.001), total cholesterol to 48.53 mg/dl (P<0.001), cholesterol LDL to 19.95 mg/dl (P<0.001) with daily consumption of 2 cups of green tea and balanced and proportional diet.Conclusion: Green tea is effective in improving serum lipid in middle-aged with lipid disorder and could be suggested as part of medical nutrition therapy for patients with high lipid profile.
