چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Increased serum levels of indicators such as homocysteine (Hcys) and C Reactive Protein (CRP), are independently correlated to the increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. The aim of the present study is to assess the effect of aerobic exercise and spirulina supplement on hepatic inflammatory indexes, and in overweight and fat women. Methods: In this experimental study with a pretest-posttest design (with control group), 40 overweight or fat women were categorized in three experimental groups: spirulina supplement group, aerobic exercise group, and spirulina supplement and aerobic exercise combined group). We had also a control group. Aerobic exercise performed for 8 weeks and 3 session in each week (one hour sessions). In the spirulina supplement group, 500mg tablets of spirulina were used three times per day, and 30 minutes before each meal. Control group received capsules containing 500 mg of starch 3 times per day, and 30 minutes before each meal. 5ml venous blood has been collected via Antecubital vein, before and after 8 weeks, and in the fasting condition, to evaluate concentrations of CRP (hs-CRP) and homocysteine. Results: A significant decrease was seen in the CRP indicator of aerobic exercise group (P=0.003), and in BMI index of aerobic exercise along with spirulina supplement (P=0.031), in comparison to control group. However, no alteration was seen in the homocysteine serum concentration due to aerobic exercise and/ or spirulina supplement. Conclusion: Further studies is required to detect the effect of receiving spirulina supplement along with aerobic exercise on effective prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
