چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Obesity is one the most public health problems among all ages throughout the world in industrialized and developing countries. It is well known that there is a strong linkage between obesity, systemic low grade inflammation and stress oxidative in pediatric population. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of curcumin supplements on inflammation, stress oxidative and chemerin levels in Iranian adolescent girls. Methods: 60 adolescent girls (age 13-18 years) were randomly assigned to either placebo or intervention group. Adolescents were asked to consume one 500 mg standardized turmeric extract 95% tablet per day along with a mild weight loss diet for 10 week. Biochemical indices were assessed at the baseline and the end of the intervention. Results: Within group analysis showed that curcumin supplementation induce significant reduction in MDA levels after 10 week. Participants in placebo group had a significant reduction in their TAC levels. The comparison of difference means change showed that curcumin supplementation had a significant beneficial effect on IL-6, TAC and MDA levels after 10 week curcumin supplementation had a significant beneficial effect on IL-6, TAC and MDA levels after 10 week. However,After adjusting for potential confounders, the desired effects of curcumin were found just for stress oxidative markers. No significant difference means change was detected for chemerin levels between two groups. Conclusion: curcumin supplementation has beneficial effects on inflammation and stress oxidative markers in overweight and obese adolescent girls.
