چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Barley s fiber, potassium, folate, and vitamin B6 content, coupled with its lack of cholesterol, all support a healthy heart. Barley is an excellent source of fiber, which helps lower the total amount of cholesterol in the blood, thereby decreasing the risk of heart disease. The beta glucan fiber found in barley lowers LDL cholesterol by binding to bile acids and removing them from the body via excretion. Methods: Assessment of the genetic diversity in a crop species is fundamental to its improvement. Biochemical and molecular markers also are key tools in the evaluation of genetic variability in both natural populations and germplasm accessions. Hordeins, the main storage proteins of the barley seed has a great inter-genotypic variation, and has been used as marker in cultivar identification, genetic diversity studies, and in determining the phylogenic origins in barley. The genetic variation existing in 106 barley accessions from different countries like Azerbaijan, France, Czech, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Nederland,Turkey, Russian and Canada was investigated using hordein polymorphism. Results: During the analysis of hordeins, no polymorphism was observed in D region. However, 84 patterns in C hordein region and 81 pattern in B hordein region were observed. In total 37 different bands were discovered in both regions. The average genetic diversity index for this proteins was H=0.98. Conclusion: This high genetic diversity identified among the populations can be used to develop new barley cultivars. Because of simple, repeatable and economic analysis of electrophoretic fractionation of hordein, it can be used as a powerful method for identifying barley varieties.
