چکیده مقاله:

The role of good nutrition in protecting and promoting health and prevention of diseases, particularly non-communicable diseases, in all age/gender groups is well- known globally in various counties. Globally a large number of studies have been conducted on identification of at-risk groups and their nutritional requirements, the goal being achievement of food and nutrition security of populations. Food security is defined as physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food by all people at all times. An extremely important point in food and nutrition security from an applied point of view is the purchasing power of the people. Although planners and experts attempt to adopt policies for provision of food items and making them accessible to the people, if the purchasing power of the people is not high enough not much will happen as regards achievement of food security. One of the most important pre-requisites for sustainable development in a country is nutrition security. Unfortunately the increases in food prices during the last few months have led to higher family food budgets. As a result, provision of sufficient safe food for the families has become even more difficult. National planners and experts in different countries are making every effort to make possible provision of sufficient food to meet, by adopting and implementing sound targeted subsidy policies, the minimum requirements of individuals in the population. In this study the role of national balanced diet cost in food & nutrition security and its role in sustainable development will be discussed.
