A MODEL FOR TECHNOLOGY CAPABILITY ASSESSMENT IN R&D CENTERS

the first prerequisite for tecnology development in an organization , industry or country is determining technology priorities and strategies regarding the capabilities of that organization of industry . Technological capability assessment is a process by which an organization or industry can study its current and potential technological abilities and capabilities considering its long term objectives and can plan for reducing the technological gap identified by comparing its current situation with an ideal situation or its competitors. On the other hand , R&D centers which mainly shaped on goal setting , planning and leading technological and research activities, are one of the important agents of improving the countries technological capability. because of the specific nature and context of R&D centers , assessing their technological capability needs specific models developed on the basis of their constraints and assumptions. the technological capability assessment literature suggests some models regardless of the nature of the organization . as it mentioned before, R&D centers need a specific concentration and point of view . this paper suggests a model specialized and customized for assessing the technological capability of an R&D center like research institute of petroleum industry RIPI.
