چکیده مقاله:

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a highly toxic in small doses gas that known as silent killer. It can be detected by smell at concentrations ranging from 0.01-0.3 parts per million (ppm). However, relying solely on its odor is not a good idea because at concentrations above 100 ppm it deadens a person’s sense of smell within a few minutes. In this paper, we analyze and assess the properties and hazards of hydrogen sulfide in oil and gas drilling; then, we present the hydrogen sulfide responsibilities, and control methods. Avoiding exposure to hydrogen sulphide is the best way to protect health. Options that should be considered include the use of the engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipments such as CABA (Compressed Air Breaching Apparatus), and SCBA (Selfcontained breathing apparatus) it is important to select monitoring equipment that fits the needs of the work environment. Monitoring equipment such as detectors for hydrogen sulphide should be set to alarm at no higher than the Occupational Exposure Limit for hydrogen sulphide.
