A study of stretching and bending coupling in governing equations of inhomogeneous plates

This paper presents a study on the coupling of governing equations of inhomogeneous plates comprised of functionally graded material (FGM).Based on the first order shear deformation plate theory, the five coupled partial differential equations of functionally graded plate are presented and reformulated by use of four new functions. In an illustrative example, these equations associated with various boundary conditions are then solved for an inhomogeneous functionally graded rectangular plate by using the Fourier series technique.
