In this paper, mixed convection heat transfer of the heat transfer oil - copper oxide (HTO - CuO) nanofluid flow in horizontal tubes is studied experimentally. The flow regime is laminar and the surface temperature is constant. The influence of adding nanoparticle concentration and microfin tube on the heat transfer rate is investigated as Richardson number is between 0.1and 0.7. The results show that the mixed natural and forced convection heat transfer rate increases significantly as the nanoparticle increases from 0 to 1.5% up to 18%. In addition, based on the results, although classic Jackson et al. correlation may predict Nusselt number of nanofluid flow in smooth tubes, it is not proper for microfin ones. As a result, a new correlation is presented for the this situation which may predict reasonably the nanofluid flow Nusselt number. As the heat transfer enhancement methods usually accompany with an increase in the pressure drop, the system performance index is also presented. This result show that using nanoparticles is more in favor of the heat transfer enhancement rather than in the increase of the pressure drop.
