Practical Solutions to Reduce Methane Emissions

Nowadays, methane playing a significant role in global warming . As the report of College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University in 2004 asserts, Methane was responsible for 14.3 % of all Greenhouse Gas Emissions. In a general view, there is more than 84 million barrel of oil produced each day in 2012 all over the world (Wikipedia). These huge production has a substantial contribution in global warming, as Environment Canada asserts 25 % of all contaminants are related to oil and natural gas industries. Meanwhile, 29 % of methane is originated by oil and natural gas, as EPA claims. Hence, the role of oil and natural gas in producing methane is not negligible. In this research, I am trying to find out the ways that are applicable to reduce the production of methane and consequently its resulted emission; such as reducing methane in crude oil distillation, leakage in oil and natural gas industry s equipment like pumps, tubes, and heat exchangers and also flares.
