Self-Excited Vibration of the Three-Degrees of Freedom System

Stick-slip vibration is an important issue which shall beconsidered in applications requiring high-precision motion.A straight-forward example is presented for theunderstanding of this phenomena specially in complexsystems. A three-degrees of freedom mass-damper-springis considered. This system is excited by a friction forceimposed from a moving surface. The vibration response andvelocity of system’s components under various initialconditions will be calculated and reported. The effect ofinitial conditions, velocity of moving surface and itscoefficient of friction will be studied and discussed. Theresult of this study provides a general structure for vibroacousticalanalysis of self-excited vibrating systems.
