چکیده مقاله:

Engineering finns are increasingly under pressure to perform n1ore efficiently with fewer people. Also, there is increasing global competition for better products and processes functionality, higher quality. lower costs, and other considerations including energy and environmental challenges. To manage these issues, organizations need tounderstand what skills, knowledge, and behaviors are needed from engineers who have to increasingly practice within a global information society. This trend requiresthat the industry be more innovative and responsive in order to stay competitive internationally. At both the undergraduate and graduate levels, the capability and capacity of engineering graduates must be improved so that they are capable of leading innovation and converting research results into value-added products and services. Engineering educators today, tomorrow and now need to think of how to place competencies for engineers in the context of operating within a global information society, While consideration is given to what competencies are needed for tomorrow’s engineering education, it is concluded that more relevant is the need to reconsider existing competencies within the context of engineers being in global practice. This will require that educators need to be more responsive and be prepared to support the development and evolution of competencies that are sustainable and robust within global sociological, political and economic systems. A competency model for enhancing of Mechanical Engineering curricula along with some effective recommendations for preparing the Iranian Educators to face this challenge is proposed within this paper [I] [2].
