چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: Cisplatin (CP) is potent antineoplastic agent in the treatment of wide range ofcancers, but it is accompanied with major limiting side effect of nephrotoxicity. The aim of thepresent study was to evaluate the possible protective effect of Vitamin in the prevention ofCP-induced nephrotoxicity. Methods: total of 51 patients treated with CP chemotherapy were randomly assigned to receiveVitamin supplementation (400 Iu/ daily) (N=26) or placebo (N=25). Serum creatinine, glomerularfiltration rate (GFR) and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) were measured beforeeach chemotherapy cycle and one month after the cessation of the cycles. Results: significant decrease in blood levels of NGAL and serum creatinine in the vitamin Egroup compared to baseline (P= 0.001). GFR increased significantly in Vitamin group(P= 0.001). Generally, Vitamin was tolerated well Conclusion: Our findings indicate that Vitamin has protective effects against CP-inducednephrotoxicity but larger studies are needed to confirm.
