Effect of sound therapy on tinnitus

Background and subjective: Sound therapy, sometimes called acoustic therapy, cause tinnitus less noticeable. It won t cure the situation , But it can make it easier to live with. The therapy was originally improved as a distraction for people who have tinnitus. use of external noise in order to change a patient’s perception of, or reaction to, tinnitus. Research showed that sounds perceived as rain, music, and waves were classified the most acceptable but There was substantial changeability in sounds preferred by the subjects.Search method: in this review article effect of sound therapy was considered. pubMed, science direct, text book of tinnitus, google scholar, treatment text book search was performedFinding: The studies showed that a background sound mixed with the microphone input can be efficient for making tinnitus silent during daily use of the sound processor in selected cochlear implant users.Research showed that amplitude modulated (AM) sounds and unmodulated sounds elicit a short-term stoppage of tinnitus loudness (seconds to minutes) with intense suppression right after stimulus offset. AM sounds near the tinnitus frequency cause significantly stronger tinnitus loudness suppression than noise. also they showed that AM sounds may cause larger suppression than unmodulated sounds because they may be more efficient in lessening hyperactive neural activities collaborated with tinnitus.Conclusion : the researchers suggested that effectiveness of S-Tones at reducing tinnitus loudness are more than noise. S-Tones at the tinnitus pitch-match frequency are more effective than broadband noise at diminishing tinnitus loudness. Also they found notch noises cause significant long-term reduction of tinnitus loudness in compare with non-notched broadband noise and noise of water. Research showed that all patients received Sequential sound therapy(SST) , which uses wide-band white noise, tinnitus disappeared altogether,100% of subjects treated with SST obtained satisfactory results in compare Satisfactory results obtained with subjects treated with TRT totaled 33%.
