Review on the Effect of Antibacterial Agent Provided From Neem Extracts on Cotton Fabric

Among different fabrics, synthetics and naturals, cotton is one of the most used fabrics as textile for human being because of its ability to absorb moisture and giving comfort to the body.The high moisture absorbency as well as the existence of hydrocarbons in cotton fabric structure has made it a greatmedia for growing and nutrition of microorganisms. So in the last century it has been an attempt to add antibacterial properties to cotton fabrics.Neem (Azadirachtin indica) is an evergreen tree which is native to India, but it has been planted in 30 other countries as well. Neem is one of the most versatile trees. Differentproperties including: antibacterial, antimalarial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and many other varied biological activitieshas been specified for Neem extracts. These varied activities emanate from different compounds including Nimbin Nimbolide, Margolone, Gedunin, Azadirachtin, Mahmoodin,Margolonone, Isomargolonone, Cyclic trisulphide and Cyclic tetrasulphide. The present study aims at extraction of active compoundsfrom different parts of Neem tree including leaf and seed. The antibacterial properties of the extracts of these different partswill be studied. The one which had the most antibacterial property will be chosen to be applied on cotton fabric to give antibacterial properties to it.
