Surface Treated Wood Flour as Biodegradable Filler for NR/SBR Compound

In the present study, wood flour (WF) was surface treated by poly propylene glycol (PPG). The treatment of the particles were confirmed by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. The WF and the surface treated wood flour (STWF) were used as fillers in the compounds based on natural rubber (NR) and styrene butadiene rubber (SBR). The physico-mechanical properties of the compounds were investigated. Results were shown that the properties were improved by using STWF. It could be attributed to the better hydrophobicity of the STWF. SEM images were considered for evaluating the dispersion of the filler and were shown better uniformity in rubber matrix by using STWF
