چکیده مقاله:
Silicone rubber possesses a high potential of application for developing monolithic, long-acting drug delivery devices. However, saturated solubility and diffusivity of permeant species must be firstly determined as the two determinant factors for permeability. Saturated solubility and diffusivity of progesterone (PRO) and estradiol benzoate (EB) in silicone elastomer are investigated here using extraction process and side-by-side Chien diffusion cells, respectively. According to the results, the saturated solubility of PRO (1737.57 ± 287.75 μg/μL) was approx. 12 times more than EB. Diffusion coefficient of PRO (5.38 × 10-7 cm2/s) was higher compare to EB. These differences were discussed in terms of molecular weight and structure of EB and PRO and their corresponding particle size and molecular weight.
