چکیده مقاله:

Introduction The goals of tissue engineering are repairing or regenerating portions of or whole tissues, therefore, hydrogel scaffolds are considered as an extracellular network for regulating and stimulating cell growth.Hydrogels are three-dimensional structures made of synthetic materials (poly oxyethylene, polyvinyl alcohol, etc.) and natural materials (alginate, chitosan, gelatin, etc.). Nowadays, hydrogels have adsorbed great attention because they can be utilized as scaffold materials for drugand stem cell delivery, tissue engineering, and a variety of other applications. Objectives This research aimed to evaluate the studies conducted by Iranian researchers on synthesizes and usages of hydrogel scaffold. Methods The necessary data for this review were obtained solely from the research articles published by May 2018 based on databases including, Iran Research Information System, SID, PubMed, Scopus and Science Direct. ResultsIranian researchers have dealt with the production of various types of hydrogel scaffolds in more than 900 research articles. Most studies utilized natural compounds and chitosan, hydroxyapatite and gelatin components had the highest share (about 50%) of the investigations. Hydrogels were studied for various applications including wound healing (13%), bone regeneration (41%), cartilage tissue repair (8%), drug transfer (5%) and stem cell differentiation or transmission (31%). Conclusion The application of the hydrogels for tissue engineering and drug delivery are developing quickly. However, in spite of the many advantages and some commercial samples, more research is needed for their optimum clinical application. Research conducted by the Iranians has been growing appropriately, but more in vivo studies aimed to make research results applicable are suggested
