Predicting Coaches’ Performance in Dealing with Problems based on Creativity

Background: The purpose of this study was to examine the relation between creativity and coach’s performance in dealing with problems. Materials and Methods: The research method of this study was descriptive correlation design. Statistical population of this research included 140 coaches of teamsthat were competing in 23th students Sports Olympiad throughout Iran, So 100 Coaches selected randomly as sample of this study. These coaches completed demographic questionnaire, creativity test (Abedi, 2002) for assessing creativity, and coaches performance questionnaire of Martens for examining coaches performance in dealingwith problems. Validity and reliability of first scale has confirmed in Iran, but validity and reliability of these two scales were examined in this research (α=0.78 and α=0.71, respectively). After collecting data, descriptive and inferential statistics methods wereused. In inferential statistics method first the data were assessed for normal distribution by using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, and then Pearson correlation test and multiple regre ssion analysis were used. Results and Discussions: The results showed that there is a positive significantcorrelation between creativity and coaches performance in dealing with problems (p≤0/05, r= 0/311). Also there is a positive significant correlation between subscales ofcreativity, including fluid, initiative, & flexibility and coaches performance in dealing with problems but the relation between component of expansion and coaches performance in dealing with problems was not significant. Across subscales of creativity,only components of initiative and flexibility examined the variance of coaches’ performance in dealing with problems. Conclusion: Thus, it is concluded that coaches with high creativity have better performance in dealing with problem.
