چکیده مقاله:

Objectives: Nausea and vomiting are among the most common complaints during pregnancy that affect not only women s physical health but also their psychological and social performance. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of syrup (quince, ginger, vinegar, honey) and ondansetron syrup on nausea and vomiting during pregnancy in pregnant women referring to Hamadan Comprehensive Health Centers.Materials and Methods: The present study isa randomized clinical trial that was conducted on 120 pregnant women who referred to health centers of Hamadan during the years 2017-2018. Participants were randomly divided into two groups of 60 receiving (quince, ginger, vinegar, honey) syrup and ondansetron syrup for 7 days. In this study, data collection tools, demographic questionnaire and the information associated with pregnancy, and PUQE-24 questionnaire were used to assess the severity of nausea and vomiting, and the questions related to the assessment of side effects as well asparticipants’ level of satisfaction with the treatment were provided. The rate of nausea and the frequency of vomiting in pregnant women were recorded 24 hours before the treatment, and then one week after the start of treatment using PUQE-24 questionnaire. Data were analyzed using statistical methods Chi-square, paired t-test, and descriptive statistics and spss/21.Results: The mean age of the participants in the (quince, ginger, vinegar, honey) syrup group was 27.84 ± 6.78 years and 28.40 ± 5.29 years in the ondansetron syrup group. According to the paired t-test, the severity of nausea and vomiting in both groups decreased after intervention, but considering the independent t-test, there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of severity of nausea (P<0.05). According to the Chi-square test, the severity of nausea of all participants was moderatein both groups before taking the medication, and after taking the medication, the severity of nausea reduced in most participantsand they were placed in the mild group. Conclusion: Due to the similar effects of (quince, ginger, vinegar, honey) syrup and ondansetron syrup in the treatment of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy and the absence of side effects arising from its use, herbal medicine can be used instead of chemical drugs.
