The most important factor in the formation and functioning of multiculturalism is modern sociocultural reality, in the framework of which, first of all, it is necessary to highlight such a phenomenon as globalization. This process, which was actively developing throughout the 20th century, became especially noticeable at the end of the last century, which aroused growing interest in it. If for 1980-1984, only 13 books on globalization were published in the world, then in 1992-1995 already 81, and only in 1996 - 211 books. To date, there are already thousands of books on globalization. The phenomenon of economic globalization is most thoroughly studied (a special place is occupied by the study of the activities of transnational corporations) and a number of aspects of political globalization. But there are a number of works of a broader plan, where globalization is considered in the cultural and philosophical vein. In general, now we can talk about the emergence of a new scientific interdisciplinary discipline - global studies, studying this phenomenon as a whole, and its individual sides.
