چکیده مقاله:

Background: Turquoise blue, a reactive dye, is widely used in the textile industry. Reactive Turquoise Blue is defined as a chemical dye that is used for coloring materials like cotton, wool, silk and other polyamide textiles. The resulting textile wastewater is of a deep blue color that affects water quality by inhibiting the penetration of sunlight and thus reducing photosynthetic activity. The studies showed that, numbers of dyes are released as waste product from such industries. The aim of this study was to investigate the antibacterial effect of Reactive Turquoise Blue against Bacillus subtilis and E.coli using Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) and Disc diffusion tests. Methods: The MIC and MBC was established by dilution assay. Disk diffusion test was done under sterile conditions disks containing three concentrations (50, 100 and 150 μg). Results: MIC values of Reactive Turquoise Blue on E.coli was 50 μg/ml, and MBC values was 800 μg/ml and MIC values of test substance on Bacillus subtilis was 100 μg/ml, and MBC values was 600 μg/ml. Conclusion: The results of disk diffusion assay showed that the Reactive Turquoise Blue has not anti-bacterial effect on Ecoliand Bacillus subtilis. It can be concluded that Reactive Turquoise Blue did not have antimicrobial effects.
