چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Fathers, like mothers, experience a range of emotions during pregnancy and childbirth, one of which is fear. Fear of childbirth is a negative perspective that begins from the period before birth and continues during and after childbirth. Since fear of childbirth can be associated with problems in fathers and their families, this study was designed to investigate factors related to fear of childbirth. Methods : In this narrative review, the researcher initially looked at the Google Scholar search engine and more specifically in Persian and English databases SID, Magiran, PubMed, Science Direct, Cochran, PsycINFO, with using the combination of keywords Fathers, Fear of Childbirth, Related Factors, and its MeSH and Persian equivalent, from 2000 to 2019 searched for related articles. Out of 270 articles, 18 articles were finally used for writing. Results : The results were categorized in two main categories: 1- Psychological Factors: include subcategories of concerns (Concerns about type of childbirth, interventions during childbirth and its side effects, spouse health, child health, access to adequate health care, financial constraints, repetition of past unpleasant experiences, and impairment of future marital relationship), doubts (Fathers doubts about their ability to provide emotional support to their spouses, their ability to endure the situation, and the spouse s ability to cope with the delivery process), and Disorders (Mood disorders, traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), personality disorder, and history of mental illness). 2 Socio-Demographic Factors: Includes subcategories of demographic factors (First experience of fathering and non-native fathers) and hospital-related factors (Hospital staff qualification and behavior, lack of adequate support, and fear of not being allowed to participate in important decisions and discussed by staff). Conclusion : Given that fear of childbirth in fathers is directly related to cesarean delivery in mothers, therefore, it is suggested that health care providers move towards reducing it by acquiring knowledge of the factors that cause fear of childbirth.
