Multicomponent reactions (MCRS), reactions involving at least three starting materials in a onepot reaction, remain the most.efficient method of rapidly introducing molecular diversity. As such they have found widespread use in organic and diversiry-oriented synthesis by their ability to access highly functionalized molecules in simple and straightforward one-step transformations. Among the known multicomponent reactions to date, the most valuable reactions are those based on isocyanides. Isocyanide-based multicomponent reactions (abbreviated to IMCRs by Ugi and Domling) by virtue of their synthetic potential, inherent atom efficiency, convergent nature, ease of implementation, and the generation of molecular diversity, have attracted much attention because of the advantages that they offer to the field of combinatorial chemistry. The ability of an isonitrile to undergo easy R-addition with a nucleophile and an electrophile under mild conditions has made them polpular reactants for the development of novel MCRs. As part of our ongoing program to develop efficient and robust methods for the preparation of organic compounds[1,2], we sought to develop an efficient route for the one-pot synthesis of benzofuran derivatives from simple and readily available isocyanides. The stractures of the products were deduced from their IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectrometry. In summary, we have found a new and efficient method for the synthesis of benzofuran derivatives. we believe that the reported method offers a simple and efficient route for the preparation of the benzofuran derivatives. Its ease of work-up and the acceptable yields make it a useful method.
