Due to uncontrolled exploitation of natural resources and rapidly changing climate on the global scale, dependency on fossil fuels has caused major concerns in the recent years. Transport sector, similar to other energy intensive sectors, is heavily reliant on fossil fuels, which greatly contributes to the global warming. This paper addresses the environmental impacts of CO2 emissions in vehicle routing problem considering alternative fuels in a mathematical programming model. An important aspect incorporated in this paper is the inclusion of life cycle analysis of transport fuel in order to quantify the total GHG emissions. The model was tested to demonstrate the importance of incorporating life-cycle analysis in terms of providing reliable solutions. Finally, an analysis is conducted to evaluate the performance of the several fuels regarding environmental benefits
