چکیده مقاله:

Background and Objective: One of the major concerns among addicts is the relapse of addiction. This study aimed to investigate the effective factors in relapse of addiction in methadone-treated addicts referring to addiction treatment centers in Southeast of Iran.Materials and Methods: In this prospective study, 250 addicts referring to addiction treatment centers in Zahedan city were examined. The data was collected through an interview with patients using a questionnaire surveying demographic characteristics and addiction-related characteristics. .Findings: The results of this study showed that 162 addicts (64.8%) had relapsed and 88 (35.2%) ones had no relapse to drug abuse. The cost of drug supply (OR = 1.99, CI=95%: 1.03-3.85), the duration of previous abandonment (OR = 2.52, CI=95%: 1.36-4.66), and history of alcohol use before starting to use drugs(OR=2.29, CI=95%: 1.09-4.90) were good predictors for relapse of drug addiction. Conclusion:There was a high rate of addiction relapse in south of Iran. We recommend further studies related to the relapse of addiction and the observation of addicts by families with regard to the effective variables introduced in this study.
