چکیده مقاله:

The most common carcinoma of human being is skin carcinoma and among them, basal cellcarcinoma forms the most common carcinoma. This tumor has a very low growth rate, but itcan penetrate to subcutaneous tissues such as cartilage and bones and destroy thesetissues; but it rarely leads to metastasis. The highest level of incidence is found in peoplewith light skin. The Recognition of effective risk factors in incidence of disease and avoidingfrom them is very effective for prevention of this disease. Since oxidative stress is probablyone of the risk factors which causes dermal basal cell carcinoma, investigation of therelationship between oxidative stress with dermal basal cell carcinoma is not only a very newresearch subject but also very important for increasing our knowledge about underlyingmechanisms in diseases pathogenesis. Oxidative stress was evaluated through measuringits markers such as protein carbonyl as a total index of protein oxidation, and total antioxidantcapacity. Forty cases of dermal basal cell carcinoma who were visited at or admitted toGhaem or Imam Reza hospitals and fulfilled the inclusion criteria were recruited in this study. The control group was chosen from people who were not suffering from this disease or othersystemic diseases. About 10 ml venous blood sample was withdrawn by an expert nurse, and blood samples were centrifuged and sera were separated and stored at -70 °c untilmeasurement. Protein carbonyl levels and antioxidant capacity were then assessed in thesesamples using available commercial kits. Data was then analyzed and compared betweenpatients and control group. Protein carbonyl level was significantly higher in patientscompared to control group (p<0.05). On the other hand, antioxidant capacity of samples takenfrom patients were significantly lower than those of controls (p <0.05). This study shows thepathogenesis of dermal basal cell carcinoma might be associated with oxidative stress.K
