And it has already been recommended by NCCNguideline. Laparoscopic colectomy (LC) became the standard of care for treating colon cancer inmany centers. However, laparoscopic rectal cancer surgery still needs to wait for survival andrecurrence rates of long-term follow-up data for verification. ehe feasibility, safety, and oncologicequivalence have been proven, and clinical usefulnesses have also been demonstrated over openapproaches. Adaptations in laparoscopic technique were developed to increase use of minimallyinvasive surgery to further optimize patient outcomes. From these needs, single incisionlaparoscopic surgery (SILS), hand assisted laparoscopic surgery (HALS), and robotic assistedlaparoscopic surgery (RALS) were applied to colorectal surgery. Each platform has unique costs andbenefits, and similar outcomes when likened to each other in comparative studies. ehe goal of thispaper is to review the history, technical specifications, current status, and evolution of the majorminimally invasive techniques for colorectal cancer surgery.
