Gastric cancer is one of the most common types of malignancies and it is the second cause of death toll as a result of cancer. Genetic factors such as genes polymorphism are associated with theoccurrence of gastric cancer. The present research studies the correlation between polymorphisms of gastric tumor necrosis factors among those suffering from gastric cancer. This is a case-controlresearch where polymorphism of alpha and beta tumor necrosis factors in people with gastric cancer were compared against healthy people. Using polymerase chain reaction method ARMS-PCR and PCR-RFLP, polymorphism genotype in -308 position in TNF-α gene and +245 position in TNF-β gene in 30 healthy individuals and 66 patients afflicted with gastric cancer were studied and compared againstone another. Finally, the correlation between the polymorphism of these genes and occurrence of cancer was studied. An analysis of genotype status of TNF-α-308 and TNF-β+254 and utilization ofstatistical analysis showed a significant difference in distribution of TNF-α-308 A/A and TNF-β+254 G/G genotypes among healthy participants and those suffering from cancer (P < 0.05). In comparisonwith healthy people, a sizable number of those suffering from gastric cancer had TNF-α-308 A/A and TNF-β+254 G/G genotypes.Based on the results achieved in this research, we may conclude thatthere is a significant correlation between homozygote genotypes TNF-α-308 A/A and TNF-β+254 G/G and affliction with gastric cancer
