چکیده مقاله:
Background: The high incidence of burns amongst epileptic patients is a serious concerns. This cross-sectional study was conducted to show the frequency, causes and outcomes of patients suffering from burn as a result of this disorder.Materials and Method: From January 2001 to January 2011 medical records of acute burn injury-related new admissions at Burn Center in Iran were reviewed and their demographics, burn injury data, types of surgical procedures and the outcome, such as infection and mortality were recorded.Result: During the study period, 39 patients were admitted due to burn injuries. The mean age was 30+/-11 years. Most thermal injuries had occurred at home (82.05%). Flame was the most common cause of burn (66.66%). Out of 39 just 5 patients (12.8%) were aware of the high burn risk. Conclusion: To implement a successful injury-prevention program, it is better to recognize patients with seizure as a high risk group. For this reason, a burn prevention brochure was developed and distributed amongst epileptic patients and their families.
