Peat Soil Stabilizing by Hydrated Lime

The construction of roads and other linear civil engineering projects through forest areas because of the peaty soil has always been difficult. Replacing these kind of soils with other types in many cases maybe costly, extended and not feasible. One of the techniques is stabilizing soils by mixing with a binder. Soil stabilization using lime is one of the old and fairly cheap methods. This paper presents the results of study carried out into peat soils stabilizing with hydrated lime. Peat soils samples are taken from Talesh Mountains’ forest and have been treated with different percentages of Hydrated Lime. Laboratory studies results indicated improvment of physical and geotechnical properties for peat soils treated by hydrated lime.
