Non-pharmacological relief of nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy; A review study

Introduction: Nausea with or without vomiting is the most common and patients. 48-70% of these patients are still suffering from nausea andvomiting. This study aimed to review non-pharmacological methods of relieving nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy.Methods: This review study was performed in year 1398. To find evidence, English-Persian and Persian-language databases (Google Scholar, SID, Pub Med, Elsevier ) with English-defined keywords :Chemotherapy and Vomiting and Nausea keywords and with Persian-defined keywords such asChemotherapy, Nausea and Vomiting, and complementary therapies were searched. Clinical trial studies and articles have been published in Farsi and English-language journals since 1377-1397 were studied. Out of the 25 articles were found. After eliminating duplicate and unrelated cases, finally, 7 articles entered the study process based on inclusion criteria.Objective: Non-pharmacological relief of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.Results: According to the study results, non-pharmacological methods of nausea and vomiting relief of chemotherapy, including sucking bits of icecontaining mint extract, cardamom aroma inhalation, ginger powder capsules ,Matricaria Chamomile extract, music therapy, Massage therapyand ear acupuncture were included. The duration of the aforementioned methods ranged from 3 days before chemotherapy till 5 days after that.Based on the results of 6 studies, non-pharmacological soothing practices reduced the severity of nausea, and the results of two studies showed that in addition to the standard anti-nausea and vomiting drug regimen, they also decreased the severity and number of vomiting cases.Clinical use: Non-pharmacological relief of nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy can play a significant role in reducing the incidence andunpleasant experience in cancer patients without the side effects of chemical drugs. Therefore, considering the importance of the problem for evidencebased use, while recommending the foregoing, it is suggested that further annoying complication of chemotherapy and is a major concern in cancer patients. 48-70% of these patients are still suffering from nausea and vomiting.
