Screening of Potential Asphaltene Deposition for an Iranian Oil Reservoir

The movement of production systems to deepwater and subsea environments in recent years has increased the importance of fluid property related flow assurance issues. Fluid property variations thatcommonly occur during the production of oil, such as changes in pressure, temperature andcomposition, can precipitate asphaltenes. Asphaltene precipitation causes severe problems in reservoir oil production which is highly costly and laborious to remediate. So it is necessary to predict thepotential for asphalt precipitation before production from a reservoir. This study is an attempt forintroducing different methods that used for screening of potential asphaltene deposition. These methods are employed on an Iranian oil reservoir to determine probability of its asphaltene precipitation and deposition. The results of study revealed that asphaltene deposition at this reservoir is almost certain. Therefore serious consideration should be taken for designing production operation and scheming production facilities to prevent prospect asphaltene problem or to reduce its side effect
