AbstractThe main objective of this study is to propose strategies for providing a relaxing and pleasantenvironment in children’s hospitals. As part of the behavior of people is the response to theenvironment, the environment in which a sick child is hospitalized should be similar to afamily environment and free from the stresses that may be caused by therapeutic processes.Therefore, this article proposes a strategy in which a message is delivered to a child throughenvironmental graphic tools which arouse the child’s curiosity. In this way, the child’srestlessness and boredom, caused by waiting, is reduced. Environmental psychology tools canreduce the child’s fear and tension of being exposed to an unknown atmosphere. As a result,architects and designers can learn to use these tools in order to design patient, examination,waiting, and play rooms in hospitals to satisfy children’s needs. In this way, patients will bemotivated to return and complete their treatment without any interdiction. In the theoreticalapproach of this article, data is collected through a descriptive-analytic method in a way thatlibrary texts and documents are analyzed to investigate the effect of environment graphicsand environmental psychology on hospitalized children. The results of this research provide asound intellectual framework to improve small spaces in hospitals as well as the feeling ofsecurity and comfort in patients. It makes the designers and architects address the needs andinterests of children by designing fear-free and relaxing environments in hospitals.Accordingly, the article proposes solutions to managers, planners and architects to meet theneeds of children with regard to their emotions.
