Introduction: A dramatic increase in the prevalence of overweight and obesity among children has been documented during recent 30 years. Obesity is associated with a set of metabolic disorders, such as insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and hypertension and cardiovascular disorders. Moreover, overweight or obese subjects are prone to joint and skeletal disorders. Due to the importance of obesity in the development of chronic diseases, much effort has been made to investigate the role of macronutrients consumption in obesity development, with the contribution of micronutrients receiving less attention. The aim of this review is to evaluates the existing evidence from studies concerning the effect of vitamin D insufficiency/deficiency on obesity in childhood and adolescence. Methods: This article is based on the findings from PubMed, Scopus, ISI and Google Scholar databases using the following keywords: ( vitamin D , obesity, adolescence, Body composition , children (until December 2019).Results: The result of current review indicate that vitamin D deficiency is more prevalent in obese children and adolescence, with a significant association between serum [25(OH)D] and BMI. Furthermore, the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency appears to be proportionally related to the degree of adiposity. One of the underlying mechanisms responsible for the association between vitamin D deficiency and obesity is thought to be the increased sequestration of vitamin D in the adipose tissue, and consequent decreased circulating levels. lower calcium or vitamin D Leads to increased parathyroid hormone (PTH), which in turn decreases 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] and increases intracellular Ca+2 into adipocytes, inhibiting lipolysis and stimulating lipogenesis. Conclusion: According to this study result, vitamin D supplementation is effective and appropriate for weight management in obese children and adolescence.
