چکیده مقاله:

The increasing need for potable water and the necessity of preventing environmental pollutions, more attention is paid to the water and wastewater treatment. Among various methods of purification, advanced oxidation processes, especially the photocatalytic method, have attracted particular attention. However, in order to analyze the complexities of a photocatalytic process, more information is needed on kinetics, radiation, and hydrodynamics. In the meantime, the CFD method has come to the help of researchers to provide information on the events within the reactor in order to solve the obstacles to improve the performance of this method and its industrialization. Therefore, in this research, a wastewater treatment process using a slurry photocatalytic reactor including 2 UV lamps, and a stirrer is modeled in COMSOL 5.4. In this model, the hydrodynamics and fluid behavior of the system are discussed. The simulation results, suggest that by increasing the number of impellers of the mixer and adding baffles to reactor better mixing is acquired which helps in maintaining the slurry condition of photocatalyst inside the reactor. Moreover, using axial impeller instead of radial led to a more uniform flow. The enhancement of these parameters can exercise a profound influence on increasing the efficiency of pollutants degradation.
