چکیده مقاله:

Today, one of the main concerns about the environment is the way societies consume natural resources. In recent years, due to these environmental concerns, major efforts have been made to promotesustainable development in developed and developing countries. Among all prerequisites ofsustainability, infrastructures are the fundamental basis for building sustainable cities. Due to the need forhuge resources in infrastructures, the lack of attention to sustainable resource allocation approaches couldlead to severe lifelong negative consequences. Thus, in this research, the impacts of natural resourceallocation on infrastructure sustainability were investigated using a real-world case study (i.e., Qom-Garmsar Freeway project) by employing the Envision infrastructure sustainability rating system. Theresults indicate that the current resource allocation practices in Iran is not promising, especially in materials and energy sub-categories. Based on the results, one could improve the level ofsustainability in resource allocation by training the project team, setting guidelines, and establishingmonitoring and maintenance systems. Finally, future works are suggested to analyze multiple real-worldcase studies and develop a holistic sustainability monitoring approach.
