The effects of garlic-supplemented diets on growth performance and blood biochemical parameters in Rainbow trout

This study investigates the effects of microencapsulated garlic extract levels on growth and blood biochemical parameters of rainbow trout for 45 days. Extract added to the diet with concentration of 0% (G0), 0.25% (G1), 0.5% (G2), 1% (G3) and 2% (G4) respectively. In a completely randomized design, fish with weight of 13.05±0.18 g were reared in twenty 50-L plastic tanks (5 treatments and each with 4 replicates). Growth performance increased with the increasing of supplementation level of garlic extract from 0 to 2%. The final weight of fish was significantly higher in G3 and G4 (55.87±3.91and 54.37±3.70, respectively) than in other treatments. The supplement of garlic extract had no significant effect on CF, HIS and VSI of rainbow trout. Total protein and albumin contents in G2 and G3 were significantly higher than other treatments. The highest lysozyme activity was observed in G1 and G2 treatments, the lowest was recorded in G0 treatment. There was a statistically significant difference in the amount of liver enzymes (ALP, AST and ALT) between experiment treatments. The results indicated that the application of garlic in diets enhanced the growth performance and improved the blood parameters in rainbow trout.
