Steel plates are used in various structures, such as the structures of the deck and body of ships,bridges, and aerospace industry. In many cases, these structures are exposed to axial compression loads,which could lead to buckling. Several Factors can affect the buckling behavior such as: aspect ratio,location and shape of cutouts, initial imperfection, etc. In this study, the buckling behavior of rectangularplates with various numbers of aspect ratios as well as the effects of imperfection and diameters of eachcutout are studied numerically. The ABAQUS software was considered for numerical simulation.Boundary conditions were clamped supports at upper and lower ends and free supports at other edges.The Taguchi method can reduce research and development costs by improving the efficiency ofgenerating information needed to design systems that are insensitive to usage conditions, manufacturingvariation, and deterioration of parts. In the present investigation a single characteristic responseoptimization model based on Taguchi Technique is developed to optimize the plate and cutout parametersto get bthe higher the better results for Ocr of the steel plates. Taguchi’s L16 orthogonal array isselected for simulation test planning. The analysis of simulation results showed that the combination oflower levels of aspect ratio and imperfection for plate and diameter and y coordinate of the cutouts isessential to achieve maximization of Pcr in buckling plates. Finally the impact of each factor on the Pcr isstudied using ANOVA method.
