Landslides are the downslope movement of rock, soil, or both under the influence of gravity. Different landslide types are classified by rate of movement and the type of material. Velocity of landslide movement can also vary from slow to very rapid. Landslides are major natural hazards which not only result in the loss of human life but also cause economic burden on the society. Therefore, it is essential to develop suitable models to evaluate the susceptibility of slope failures and their zonation s. Urbanization particularly in the hilly regions has led to the necessity of depth study and research in the field of landslide hazard zonation. Despite many technical papers being dealt in this area of study. There is no particular standard method available for evaluating and predicting the pattern of landslides. Different researchers come up with different methods for landslide hazard zonation. Due to complexity involved in the landslides are not uniform and the nature of the earth is not same. It is very often confusing to identify appropriate method to apply. This Paper deals with the compilation of various landslide types and their hazard zonation methods.
