چکیده مقاله:

Direct transdifferentiation is differentiation of one cell type into another, without going through the induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) stage. Wehave developed protocols to create different cell types from fibroblastscultured from the skin. Avoiding the genetic alterations necessary foriPSC’s is essential for the functional study of mutations that affect celldifferentiation, because the necessary genetic changes change thedifferentiation potential of the cells. The transdifferentiated cells can beused for functional studies, drug developing and patient-specific drugtesting. The differentiation of fibroblasts to osteoblasts takes 3 weeks.Differentiation to smooth muscle cells takes 8 days. For patient-specificanalyses this saves the time necessary for creating iPSC’s.
