چکیده مقاله:

Hydrated Lime (HL) has been used as an effective additive in reducing moisture susceptibility of asphalt mixes, and improving their anti-striping characteristics. The paper aims to review the conducted research works on the effects of adding Nano-sized Hydrated Lime (NHL) with two particle sizes of 50 and 100 nanometre (nm); as well as, Sub-Nano-sized Hydrated Lime (SNHL) in sizes of 280, 600 and 660 nm in binders, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and Warm Mixes Asphalt (WMA) Mixtures. The addition of NHL affects the rheological characteristics and principal properties of binders. In addition to this, results indicated that, smaller sizes of HL improve the resistance of asphalt mixes to rutting, and reduce moisture susceptibility, fatigue cracking and thermal cracking. The application of Nano material would result in new theories, and provide environmentally friendly techniques to increase service life of asphalt mixtures. One of the most important outcomes of the conducted research works was that 20% Regular Hydrated Lime (RHL) of size 1.3 µm can be replaced with 5% NHL in size of 50 nm. This results in the possibility of using lower amounts of HL in smaller dimensions, and observing identical results upon performing different tests on binders and mixes.
