چکیده مقاله:

Volatile oils have potential to prevent insect infestations in stored product environments. Confused flourbeetle Tribolium confusum Jaquelin du Val and Mediterranean flour moth Ephestia kuehniella Zeller are themost important pests of the stored products. Aim of the present study was to examine effect of Cuminumcyminum L. and Carum copticum C. B. Clarke essential oils on T. confusum and E. kuehniella. Essential oilswere extracted by hydro-distillation. The device used in our assays was a RZR olfactometer model with twoarms, one arm containing food plus essential oils and the other one containing only food. Each insect wasexamines for half an hour let to choose one arm. The results demonstrated that 0.7 μl oil/disc of C. cyminumand C. copticum had 100% and 73.33% repellency on confused flour beetle and 100% and 80% repellency onMediterranean flour moth respectively. Finding of this study indicated the high repellent activity of C.cyminum L. and C. copticum on the two stored-product insects.
