چکیده مقاله:

The beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua (Hübner) (Lep.: Noctuidae), is a polyphagous pest thatdamages many crops including corn, cotton, beet, tomato, celery, lettuce and alfalfa. In this study theresistance of 10 commercial corn hybrids (SC700, DC370, SC704, SC260, SC500, Keynes540,Keynes410, KSC260, KSC400 and KSC301) was compared to the beet armyworm through thecomparison of feeding indices. The experiment was conducted in a growth chamber under 25±1 0C, 65±5% RH and a photoperiod of 16:8 (L:D) hours. Different larvae instar of the beet armyworm showed thehighest (33.40%) and lowest (2.95%) efficiency of conversion of ingested food into biomass (ECI) onhybrids SC260 and Keynes540, respectively. The highest (60.52%) and lowest (3.01%) efficiency ofconversion of digested food into biomass (ECD) were observed on hybrids SC260 and Keynes540,respectively. The highest (9.96) and lowest (1.42) consumption index (CI) were on hybrids Keynes540and SC260, respectively. Index of relative growth rate (RGR) was the highest on hybrid SC500 (6.74) andlowest on hybrid KSC260 (0.54). Relative consumption rate (RCR) was the highest on hybrid Keynes540(1.06) hybrid and lowest on KSC260 (0.17). Our results showed that Keynes540 was partially resistanthybrid to feeding of all larval instars of S.exigua compared to the other hybrids studied in this research.
