Economical and simple synthesis of polysubstituted quinolines via Friedländer hetero-annulation using CrO3 as a highly efficient catalyst under solvent-free conditions

Polysubstituted quinolines via Friedländer hetero-annulation/condensation were synthesized in a one-pot condensation of 2-aminobenzophenone and ketone/ketoesters using CrO3 as non-toxic, inexpensive and easily available catalyst in good to excellent yields under solvent-free conditions. The presented methodology offers several advantages such as simplicity of operation, one-pot protocol, good to excellent yields, short reaction times, inexpensive and readily available starting materials and catalyst, easy workup and eco-safe procedure.
